The New BlackCherry

Ok maybe it's just us, but one of the toughest things for our company has been defining our corporate identity. Starting out 6 years ago it was clear to us Digital Media was the place to be and given we've had a successful business for that time, it seems we were right.

But so many times over this period, we've been faced with the same question.

"What is Digital Media?"

We were a bit ahead of the curve when we started out but we certainly aren't the only ones who've needed to define this now ubiquitous term. A quick search of this keyword phrase on Google reveals 500,000,000 results. So it should be simple right?

Right.

Here is our definition "Anything you see on a screen". We know it's not perfect but it works for our purposes and will be even more accurate when the Digital TV transition is complete. It will be complete one day right?

Right.

Now I know there may be people out there who would say "That's not a definition of Digital Media, that's a definition of Digital Content". Well to us this sounds like splitting hairs. Don't get me wrong, we don't manufacture Flash memory or make hard drives, we are in the content business. But we are also in the media business hence Digital Media makes sense.

This post was supposed to be about corporate identity and specifically what our's is. So while we are BlackCherry Digital Media and we have done a ton of digital media creation over the years, more and more we are focused on a few specific areas of content. These could be simply classified as online games and experiences.

We've had a lot of fun creating media products for clients working in the kids and youth space and that remains a strong part of our work. Building on that experience we are launching products of our own including a virtual world and social games. You can check out this work by visiting our newly minted website.

You can see from our website that we are pretty focused on games and product development now. Lately we've been heavily immersed in Multiplayer games, FLASH, Unity 3D development and Android. We still do other things but more and more, we are concentrating on creating online fun.

It's an exciting and challenging time for us but hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained right? Oh yeah, about the other part of our name. Nothing complicated there. It's a tasty fruit that was sitting on the table at the time we were thinking up a name. Simple right?

Right.
